Of shoes and presidents

There is some breaking news in the case of journalist Muntadhar al-Zeidi, that courageous hero who threw not one but both of his shoes at the oat-filled head of George Bush. Here it is:

Iraqi says he threw shoes at Bush to protest war

"This is your farewell kiss, you dog! This is from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq."

al-Zeidi shouted in Arabic as he discharged his fusillade.

Both the thrower and the throwee displayed a surprising dexterity as both shoes were aimed perfectly and Bush dodged each of them with equal agility.

"All I can report is a size 10"

quipped Bush (in English).

Herewith I propose making it an annual event. December 14th will be International Shoe-Lobbing Day. And may I propose that Robert Mugabe be the next target.

Here is the latest on our friend:

"Separately, Sunni lawmaker Noureddin al-Hayali called on the Iraqi leadership to pardon the journalist who threw shoes at ex-President George W. Bush.

Muntadhar al-Zeidi has been detained since he hurled shoes at Bush during a Dec. 14 joint news conference with Iraq's prime minister in Baghdad. He initially was sentenced to three years in jail but that was later reduced to one year."
